 The Last Post  

As Trumpets are played by a military. Trumpeting the song of the lost, the fallen, the dead we stand together to honour, mourn and to remember those who served our country. 

When do you hear this song? This song is heard on Remembrance day, Anzac day, sites of memorial in the United States and in the background songs of funerals and memorials for those lost in service to their country worldwide. It is heard in most military involved event.

What does this song represent? At a soldiers funeral this song signifies he/she has gone to final rest, but is also used to represent those who went to war.

Why is this significant/important to NZ? The last post is important to NZ as it is played in remembrance of the New Zealand soldiers. The last post represents those who went to war, it represents fallen soldiers, it represents those who fought for our nation. 

Why was it played and when? The last post hasn't always been a sing to represent fallen soldiers but  was once used to help with the days activities such as times to eat, exercise, sleep and many others. The song is still the same but has different changes, it has lengthened and is no longer 45 seconds but is 75 seconds, its pauses are longer and its tune is more mournful. 

hey shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

Slavery in America 

Spirituals - 

   - Explain the use of spirituals and what they are? Spirituals is a form of communication, grief, and                   belief. Slaves sung to uplift slaves, make them happier which also gave hope that freedom is                           waiting for them not only that but spirituals were used to send hidden messages to each other. 

      

Harriet Tubman -

  -  Known as the "moses of her people" Harriet Tubman is the creator of the Underground Railroad which         leaded enslaved people to freedom before the civil war. Making 19 trips to South Harriet Tubman free'd         approximately thousands of  enslaved people through the underground railroad. 

Spiritual - Wade in the water 

Wade in the water was a spiritual used to send the message that would educate the slaves preferably the younger slaves on how to escape. "Wade in the water" was indicating to the slaves that they should go into the water to remove all the scents which were used for dogs and guards to find the slaves. Removing the scent from the slaves by going into the water would make it easier for the slaves to escape. 

Why are these events still significant today? 

  - Spirituals are still used today, they are used to conflict, remember, find justice and also honour those involved in the historical slavery. Movements such as Black Lives Matter are pointing out that racism towards black people still carries on today, they are protesting peace and justice for the black people.

Body Language - Body language is a mix of gestures, postures and expressions. As you speak or listen, you also express feelings and reactions with your body language, including your facial expression, gestures, and stance.

Costume - it is a set of clothing that is styled that can show what your trying to be, or it can express the character you are playing in a role. 

Hairstyles - A hairstyle is the  particular way in which a person's hair is cut or arranged. Hairstyles can really bring out the characters personality.

Make-up - make up is a cosmetic that is used to transform someone. The use of make up can depend on the purpose and intensity of the make-up. Different effects could come about depending on how it is used. Make-up can be used to hide certain flaws, or even to fully transform a person/

Colour - the colour is used to set the scene. Like a dark colour could be used for a sad scene and a light colour used to more uplifting scenes.

Lighting - the lighting can also be used to set moods but also can be used to show the audience where to look by shining light on to certain areas. 

Health - Methamphetamine

 In Health we were set a task that required us to research and create something that would help us and other people understand the topic we chose. The topic my partner and I chose was Methamphetamine. We wanted to research about this because we find that this is quite a problem in our communities now. 

Firstly we answered 5 major questions that gave an explanation of what meth is and the effects it can have on an individual, whanau and the community. Once we finished that we created a Kahoot asking questions about meth, we did this to not only see what others know but teach them about the drug in a game. I now know that creating a Kahoot is not only a way to teach about not only meth but about most subjects in general. 

A challenging part for my partner and I would have to be creating the Kahoot. What we found challenging about this part of the project was finding and thinking of questions that would be appropriate.  Questions that weren’t  influencing people and only choosing questions that were going to be informative. I coped with this challenge by brainstorming with my partner and not thinking too deeply about the questions.

I worked well with my partner because she had strengths in areas I was weak in, and it also went the other way around. This really helped us because we brought our different perspectives, strengths and weaknesses together and got the work done, with a fair share.

Arts - Titaha

   Art - Titaha Biddle - Hepi 

My main character is the “Little red riding hood ” I put 2 things together to create one figure, I added things that reminded me of the little red riding hood story, so certain things i added really brung out the main subject such as the wolf and the house.

I varied the scale of the different parts of my photo montage, for example i made the figure really large and the wolf really small. I work in colour, but my background is brown. I used different colours so you can actually see the different images used. I used a realistic lady and the rest was cartoons because i wanted it to be like a lady jumped into the story.

I do not repeat any parts. The scale of the lady is larger than the cape, so it looked more realistic.I overlapped quite a lot actually, the wolf was overlapped by the cape and the cape was overlapped by the lady.

I want the viewer to notice straight away that my photomontage is based the little red riding hood in my situation I grabbed a lady and added a cape, so that transformed her from a basic lady to the little red riding hood. The big idea was the little red riding hood, i wanted it to seem like a lady from 1920s jumped into the little red riding hood story.

Algebra in Science

In Hurumanu 5 we learnt algebra and geometry.

 I loved having Mr Cartier as a teacher because
he could interact with his students and he can joke with us. 

We put Algebra in Science by flying paper planes and collecting data about the speed, time and distance. Here is my work.
